Hwaseong Haenggung, walking in the footsteps of the King

At first glance, it feels like a palace similar to Gyeongbokgung, but its purpose was actually quite different. While Gyeongbokgung was the central palace in Seoul where the King resided and handled state affairs, Hwaseong Haenggung was a temporary palace where the King stayed when visiting Suwon. In particular, King Jeongjo stayed here whenever he visited his father Crown Prince Sado's tomb, and major events like his mother Lady Hyegyeong's 60th birthday banquet were held here. Although smaller in scale than Gyeongbokgung, it is less crowded, and there is a charm in walking slowly between the wide courtyards and traditional Hanok buildings, imagining the King's procession to Suwon during the Joseon Dynasty. You can continue your tour directly to Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, and during the night opening period, you can see the palace illuminated, offering a completely different atmosphere from the daytime.
